Language Arts:
Students have begun our final unit focusing on writing a narrative science fiction. This is a fun and difficult unit for many students. I am looking forward to creative writing and exciting story ideas! All students will read a science fiction of choice as a mentor-text to support the writing process.
Letter to Self has begun as well! Students write a letter to their future self that will be opened during the last week of their Senior Year of high school. All 8th grade students complete this project in the Forest Grove School District and it is wonderful to hear stories of opening the letters 4 years later.

We are beginning our final unit of the year, Oceania and Antarctica. The students will focus on understanding island life in Oceania. We will have a special presentation from Professor Jessica Hardin about her research in Samoa on Thursday.
Students will receive their Mapping Final Study Guide on Tuesday. The Mapping Final will happen on Tuesday, June 5th.
Students will also get to create a Globeman Poster demonstrating their understanding of the 5 themes of geography that we studied this year. This will happen in class and will be completed by Friday, June 8th. Although it will act as a final project, the intention is not to make more homework but to give us a fun project to discuss the 5 themes of geography as a review at the end of the year.
All students are being asked to present to their social studies class on a current event in the news. This must be current and must have an article that can be read on the topic. Students will fill out the Current Event forms and then schedule a Friday presentation before June 7th.
