Every other year, we will focus on current events here at home and the history of the United States from the American Revolution through the early 1900's. Students will look at the structure of our government and political system. During this study of the government structure, students will complete an in depth research project on one United States Supreme Court decision of their choice. In the spring, we will continue our research through current issues facing our communities and any laws that can be changed to fix the problem.
During the World History/Global Studies focus year, students will learn social science analysis skills to review, understand and explain specific periods and events in history. Additionally, they will use their mapping skills from Level 3 to enhance their understanding of several types of maps and geography. The primary goal this year is to make students aware of policy issues and important global events, helping them think critically and model the issues they will eventually face as adult citizens. Students will engage in experiences that develop fair-mindedness, sensitivity to cultural similarities and differences, and a commitment to individual and social responsibility. During the first semester, they will complete a major research project researching world genocides and conflicts. During second semester, students will research a major current event, its history, and implications for the future. |
This year...The current social studies rotation for the 2019-2020 is World History/Global Studies.
