We will finish up corrections on the final draft of the research paper. The FINAL DRAFT of the Research paper is due: JANUARY 29th! This due date cannot be extended, as report cards will be completed the following weekend. Please help your student to complete the work on time!
8th graders have begun the next phase of the process, getting a place to live on the salary the received for the job. Students have completed the resume process and now must find a place to live that is near their (pretend) work place. Their rent must not exceed 1/3rd of their salary, but they can have roommates.
7th graders have chosen their dream job and now are finishing a website about that career field. We will be presenting the Job Fair at Celebrations of Learning in February!

We have been reading and learning about Apartheid in class. Today students experienced a simulation of going to school during Apartheid. They were randomly assigned a “race” (White, Colored, Asian, or Black Afrikaan) and then asked to complete a passbook based on this identity. Then we completed a mock lesson and students were given access to materials based on their race. The Black Afrikaan students in both classes chose to protest the rules of apartheid and some students from the Colored, Asian, and White groups also protested. Students protested in varied ways; silent protest with signs, leaving the classroom to protest outside the window (fists pumping), sitting on the floor, and shouting/chants. The students handled themselves well and learned a lot from the experience. Ask them about their role today!
