Thank you to all the families that joined us for the Student Led Conferences! It was lovely to listen to the students share their work and progress with you. Language Arts: This week we will return to our new normal. Students should be finished reading their book and have completed the corresponding packets. We will spend this week getting back into our regular routine. Students will be writing the next (or first for LA 7) essay on this book. Bree will work closely with the Challenge Course students to dig deeply into their books and plan their templates for the essay. I will be focusing on LA 7 learning the steps for writing an essay. Students should be prepared to answer questions about Reconstruction and Industrial Revolution. This week Bree will begin teaching about immigration during the early 1900s. It is an engaging chapter focused on immigrants from Italy, China, Mexico and European Jews. Students will also begin their Spring Research project, Research a Bill. They will research a bill that is currently being debated in the Oregon Legislature. Students will write a persuasive letter to a sitting Senator or Representative asking them to support or not support a current bill. The goal is learning how to write a persuasive letter and will help students to learn more about current legislation that might affect them in the future. Students should continue reading their Literature Circle books (Gathering Blue or 1984 for 7th grade and Lord of the Flies or Fahrenheit 451 for 8th grade) as we work on the SBAC in class. 8th grade families: High School Counselor will be coming to our school to help students learn about their high school course options on April 10th. She will return on April 16th to input the class requests for next year! Please ask your student about the class options after the visit on April 10th!
