Both groups will make book choices this week and return to Literature Circles! Although the topic is heavy, students thoroughly enjoy learning about this time in history and gain a strong sense of empathy by reading these stories.

Number the Stars - This is a happy ending, lighter story about the Holocaust.

The Girl in the Blue Coat
The Boy Who Dared
The 8th grade Challenge Course will read Survival in Auschwitz and 7th grade Challenge Course will read The Book Thief.

Social Studies:
World War 1 ended about as quickly as it started, but now the students better understand the initial causes of World War 2. Next week, we dig into the start of World War 2 and the role of the Allies versus the Axis. We will not get into the Holocaust (as formal lessons) until next week.
