October 21 & 22 - Fall Conferences
Language Arts:
Each week I will share a bit about our work in this class. 7th and 8th graders have similar topics to cover, but the 8th graders will be taking on more challenges as the year progresses. This week we focused on learning all about the Kalapuya people in preparation for writing our Land Acknowledgement statement for FGCS. The students are reading and writing all about the tribe and why they no longer inhabit the land we use for our school. Next week, the students will learn from Eva Guggemos, Archivist and Academic Librarian at Pacific University, all about writing the Land Acknowledgement statement. This is important and timely work. I am so proud of their effort!
Language Arts/Social Studies: (Normally, I will post homework here. Check their agenda/planner for information about what they did in class last week. Stay tuned…)

Currently the students learned about how we will explore new information by solving the history mystery of Mary Celeste. Now, we are beginning to dig into our first unit - Oceania and Antarctica. Students opened their Interactive Student Notebook (ISN) and began taking notes about the physical features of that place.
