This first week is about learning how to deconstruct our reading and make connections between articles and stories. The students will continue looking at what it means to be a global citizen over the coming weeks. There should not be homework from the reading material or writing assessment unless they were absent. I would like to observe and support this learning process in the classroom.
However, there will be one homework assignment this week for all students, Vocabulary Journal. The students will be asked to used their vocabulary words to write a short, fiction story. I score these on the students' ability to use the words correctly in a sentence and to connect the words through an interesting story. These stories do not need to be more than one-two paragraphs in length right now. I will expect all students to complete 2 paragraphs after they understand the process.
Monday: No homework
Tuesday: No homework
Wednesday: Vocabulary Journal
Thursday: No homework
Friday: No homework
Social Studies:
The students have cracked open the textbook and are learning how to use it as a tool to better understand mapping skills. My expectation is that much of this information is review, but the structure and pace of the class should be the focus.
There should not be any homework associated with Social Studies until the end of Chapter 2.
